The Achilles Heel - MacAndrew Road Relay Race 2014

The sun shone for most of the day and the MacAndrew passed off safely once again for the 75th annual road relay race.

The new venue at Scotstoun being an especially good host once again.

Corstorphine AAC wonPaul Sorrie the senior men's race in a combined time of 1:08.48.  The team of Moray Anderson, Bryan Clark, Scott Pilkington and Howell Craske finished over a minute ahead of 2nd placed Shettleston.

Shettleston finished in a combined time of 1:10.22 with Ronhill Cambuslang in 3rd place with a time of 1:12.05.

Inverclyde AC won the senior women's race with a combined time of 59.61.  The team of Sharon Muir, Rachael Bushfield and Julie Gordon finished 35 seconds ahead of the 2nd placed Dumbarton AAC.

Dumbarton AAC finished in a combined time of 1:00.26 with the hosts VP-Glasgow finishing 3rd in a combined time of 1:01.20.

The best time of the day was set by Paul Sorrie of Shettleston Harriers who completed his leg in a time of 16.19.  The fastest time set by a woman was Carla Molinaro who was competing in a composite team who completed her leg in a time of 18.28.

Ronhill Cambuslang Harriers won the vets race with a time of 1:13.15 while Jamie Reid won the individual vet competition with a time of 17.13.

The best performance by a woman vet went to Julie Gordon of Inverclyde AC who completed the course in a time of 19.28.

The winning juniors were Jonathan Glen of Inverclyde AC who completed his leg in a time of 16.27 and Danielle Beattie of VP-Glasgow who completed her leg in a time of 19.24.

The Achilles Heel - MacAndrew Road Relay Race 2014

Victoria Park City Of Glasgow is once again hosting the 75th annual MacAndrew Road Relay Race on Saturday the 4th of October 2014 around Jordanhill and Scotstoun.

The start time of the race is 1300 hrs.  New Start Time

Registrations will be accepted on the day on the Club Deck within Scotstoun Stadium, Danes Drive, Glasgow.  Athletes should register for the event before 1230 hrs.  Registration Forms can be downloaded here.

Parking is available within the Stadium for Officials and organisers only.  Due to the limited space available within the car park at Scotstoun during a busy period, staff have asked that competitors use the pre-arranged overflow spaces available within the playground of St Thomas Aquinas School in Mitre Road.

The School/Car Park is shown on the attached map and is less than 400m from the Stadium.

The Start line will be on Danes Drive, near to the entrance to the Stadium. 

Changing and showers can be accessed within the Stadium.  Refreshments will be provided as part of the entry fee on the Club Deck after the race.

Teams of 4 men or 3 women will circuit the three and a quarter mile course.  The cost of entry will be £20 for a male team and £16 for a female team.

Vets are 35 years for women and 40 years for men.

Last years winning team was Inverclyde AC who finished with a combined time of 1:08:13.

Glasgow University Hares and Hounds won the senior women's race, finishing in a combined time of 58.01.  The finishing positions are recorded below.

Just under 100 teams competed for the prizes on offer in 2013.  This year we expect to exceed that number.Andy Forbes winning the McAndrew for Victoria Park in 1951

The Race is held under UKA Cross Country Rules and as such Rule 507 stipulates the youngest athlete should be a 2nd year U20 who turned 17 on or before the 31st August 2014.

£700 in vouchers to be spent at Achilles Heel on Great Western Road, Glasgow, will be awarded in prizes to the winning teams and individuals on the day.

The Achilles Heel - MacAndrew Road Relay Race 2013

70 teams took part in this years MacAndrew Road Relay Race on the warmest October day for years.  The course was Start 2010unchanged with the new start and finish working well at Scotstoun Stadium.

Inverclyde AC won the mens race in a time of 1:08:13 and Glasgow University Hares and Hounds won the womens race in a time of 58:01.

The winning Inverclyde team consisted of Michael Houston, Craig Ruddy, Greg Williams and Dan Mulhare.  The winning Glasgow University team consisted of Laura Muir, Jessica Oliver-Bell and Kathryn Pennel.

The best time of the day was set by Dan Mulhare of Inverclyde AC who completed the course in 15:55.  The fastest woman was Laura Muir of Glasgow University Hares and Hounds who completed the the course in a time of 18:09.

Ronhill Cambuslang won the Male Vets race in a time of 1:16:05 and VP-Glasgow won the Female Vets race in a time of 1:04:17.

Thanks to the 25 officials who gave up their time to assist with a variety of duties, the 40 plus Marshals who remained at their posts until the last athlete was safely home and our members who served the tea and cakes on the Club Deck at Scotstoun.

The Achilles Heel - MacAndrew Road Relay Race 2012

85 teams took part in this years MacAndrew Road Relay Race in glorious conditions.  Victoria Park City Of Glasgow won the Men's race in a time of 1:05.28 and Glasgow University Hares and Hounds won the Women's race in a time of 59.57.David Vernon

The winning VP-Glasgow team consisted of David Vernon, Sean Fontana, Ethan Sloan-Dennison and Max Ralston.  This was Victoria Park's first win in the MacAndrew since 1966.  The winning Glasgow University team was Kathryn Pennel, Laura Muir and Nancy Seem.

The best time of the day was set by Chris McKay of Inverclyde who finished the course in a time of 15:37.  Jessica Bell of Shettleston Harriers was the fastest woman with a time of 19:23.

Unfortunately three teams were disqualified for fielding underage athletes.  Their times are included on the results for information only.

The Achilles Heel - MacAndrew Road Relay Race 2011
 
90 teams took part in this years MacAndrew Road Relay Race in dreadful weather conditions around Jordanhill andDerek Gibb Scotstoun.  Ronhill Cambuslang won the mens race with a time of 1:06.03 and Garscube Harriers were the winners of the womens race with a combined time of 59.38.

The winning Ronhill Cambuslang team included Andrew Coulter, Jack Kerr, Robert Gilroy and Stewart Orr.  Garscube Harriers winning team was Charlotte Wilson, Kirsty Husband and Katie White.

VP-Glasgow were 2nd in both the mens and womens races.  The mens team of Sean Fontana, Derek Gibb, Max Ralston and Ethan Sloan-Dennison finished in a time of 1:07.12 and the womens team of Louise Warren, Aisling McGhee and Claire McCracken finished in a time of 1:01.2.

The Achilles Heel - MacAndrew Road Relay Race 2010

VP-Glasgow successfully hosted the 71st annual MacAndrew Road Relay Race on Saturday the 2nd of October.  Start 2010

Glasgow University Hares and Hounds "A" won the mens race in one of the closest finishes in years from last years winners Shettleston Harriers.  The team of Lachlan Oates, Kerrick Hesse, Mathew Gillespie and Michael Deason finished in a time of in a time of 1:06:13.  Shettleston Harriers finished 1 second behind the winners and Ronhill Cambuslang Harriers "A" a further 5 seconds back.

Tewoldeberhan MengisteJo Moultrieab of Shettleston Harriers set the fastest lap for the 2nd year in succession with a time of 15:36.  Craig Ruddy of Inverclyde AC was 2nd in a time of 15:45 and  Michael Gillespie of Shettleston Harriers was 3rd in a time of 16:01.

Calderglen Harriers Vets "A" won the mens Vets race with a time of 1:12:46 and David Millar of Irvine A.C. won the individual award with a time of 16:09.

Mathew Gillespie of Glasgow University Hares and Hounds set the best time for a junior with a time of 15:50.

VP-Glasgow won the women's race, finishing 10 seconds ahead of Shettleston Harriers.  The team of Jo Moultrie, Claire Thompson and Claire McCracken finished in a time of 59:07.  Garscube Harriers "A" Vets finished in 3rd place in a time of 1:00:02.

Jo Moultrie of VP-Glasgow set the fastest lap with a time of 18:47.  Lindsay MacNeill of Shettleston Harriers was 2nd with a time of 19:16 and Avril Mason of Shettleston Harriers was 3rd with a time of 19:39.

VP-Glasgow Vets won the Hollie Youngwomen's Vets race with a time of 1:00:04 and Kirsty Husband of Garscube won the individual award with a time of 19:27.

Hollie Young of VP-Glasgow set the best time for a junior with a time of 20:03.
