Christmas Road Race - Results
The Christmas Road Race was once
again very well attended considering it clashed with last minute shopping.
The
Lord Provost
Liz Cameron once again
added to the occasion and took the role of Official Starter very seriously.
She did decline the invitation to use Johns .38 starters pistol and used a
whistle instead. This year she was dressed for the occasion and was in
possession of her chain of office. She was impressed by the mix of ages of
those taking part and spoke about her optimism that the Commonwealth Games will
be coming to Glasgow in 2014.
The picture right shows the
Provost with our U11 Boys winner, Fraser Barbour number 62 along with our U17
Ladies winner, Abbey McGhee number 48 and our U15 Boys winner, Michael Gray
number 72.
The winners on the day were:

Thanks once again to Gerry Craig for the cash donation and for all of the goody
bags, I've a feeling the windscreen scraper will be needed before the week is
out.
Thanks to Julie and Gordon for the baking and Linda and Margaret for serving the
hot drinks.

Christmas Road Race - Saturday 16th
December
Everyone
is invited to take part in our Christmas Road Race on the 16th. If you would
like to take part, you should meet in the Pavilion at Scotstoun in time for a
12.30pm start.
Competitors
should arrive bearing a gift for the Lucky Dip. (Value in the region of £4 - £5.
e.g. Selection boxes/sweets/chocolates for the younger athletes and Bottle of
Wine/Box of Biscuits, etc for the adults.
We're hoping for
a large turnout on the day with £100 in cash prizes up for grabs and goody bags
for the juniors thanks to a very generous donation by Gerry Craig of Jordanhill
Garden Supplies. After the race, there will be a hot drink waiting and a bite
to eat courtesy of Julie and Gordon McGhee.
Last
year we were delighted when the Lord Provost of Glasgow, Liz Cameron who was
passing by in her Chauffeur driven car, saw our junior athletes about to start
our Christmas Handicap Race at the entrance to Scotstoun. She stopped the car
and offered her services to the Club as the official starter. The race was
thereafter started in some style by the Lord Provost.
This year the
Lord Provost has very kindly accepted our invitation to once again act as
official starter and will join us within the Pavilion before the big event.
The distances
for the event will be 2 miles for the juniors and the 3 and a quarter mile
McAndrew Course for the seniors. |

in August last year.
Katie and Rebecca enjoyed meeting the Queen, wearing new
frocks and two expensive nights out in London before returning to competition at
the Kelvin Hall on Sunday.

The voting members of the Club met on Tuesday the 28th of

Thanks to
everyone who came along to the SGM and took part in the discussions. It was
very clear when listening to the debate that there was no shortage of members
with the best interests of the Club at heart while speaking for and against the
proposal. |

Fluorescent Bibs
Following recent comments from
Coaches and Parents alike, the club has purchased a supply of Fluorescent Bibs
which can be bought from Gordon or Linda Innes for the price of £2.50.
The Club has a duty of care for
our athletes at all times and no more so when they are road running on dark
winter nights.
The coaches have encouraged the
athletes in their care to wear bright and light coloured clothing without
success and we now feel obliged to insist that all of our athletes wear
fluorescent clothing while road running at night.
There is no obligation to wear
one of the club bibs provided that the athlete is wearing their own clothing
with similar properties.
The first Road Race of the
winter season will be at Scotstoun at 7pm on the 30th of November and we would
like all of our Juniors to be suitably dressed for the occasion.
