Christmas Road Race - CANCELLED

The Christmas Road Race has had to be cancelled due to snow and ice on the route.

This is the 2nd year in a row that the race has had to be cancelled due to snow although it is also only the 2nd time in the last 40 years.

I'm sure our younger members will be able to find alternative sport which is more practical in the prevailing conditions.

Club Championships 2011

For the first time in many years we have found it impossible to find a date suitable for our Club Championships.  Over a number of years, the pressure on our Championships has grown because of the length of the season and the increase in the number of open graded meetings in September.

As a result of this, we have decided to award medals to our Club Champions, based on their performances in Division 1 of the Young Athletes League for 2011.

Sandra and Donald Branney were tasked with identifying the athletes who had achieved the best performances over the season.  They used the Thistle scoring tables to give a numerical score for the best two performances by each athlete and then increased that score by 3% for each additional event covered.

The following athletes will be awarded medals at the AGM on Wednesday the 30th of November.

Archive Footage - Edinburgh to GlasgowBobby Calderwood in the start

Graham Smith sent in the link to the Brittish Pathe News feature on the News Of The World Edinburgh to Glasgow Road Relay Race from 1954.

If you didn't know the result, Victoria Park won for the 5th year in a row and took over 2 minutes off the existing record.

The team on the day was Bobby Calderwood, Jimmy Russell, Ian Binnie and John Stirling.

Victoria Park won the annual event seven times in total.  Click on the picture to view the Pathe News footage.
