Indoor League - Match 2

Eilidh McEvillyVP-Glasgow had an excellent day at the Kelvin Hall with some fantastic individual performances.  The full results might not be available for a few days but I've highlighted a few of the best performances on the day.

There was also winners among the U15 girls and I'll add them when I can identify them.

I'll post the full results when they are available.

Well done to everyone who represented the Club.

Belfast International Cross Country

Max Aitchison was unlucky that a fall in the closing stages of his U13 1800m cross country race around the Stormont Estate in Belfast saw him miss out on a medal.  He finished fourth in a time of 7:48.  Only eleven seconds separated the first four athletes.

The race was held on Saturday the 5th of January but Max made it back in time to represent the Club at the Kelvin Hall on Sunday the 6th.

Well done Max.

Nigel Barge

Martin HayesMaryhill Harriers hosted the annual Nigel Barge Memorial 10K Road Race on Saturday the 5th of January.

Only three VP-Glasgow athletes took part this year with Jill Knowles winning the Ladies race in a time of 36:32.

Martin Hayes was the first U20 to finish in a time of 36:48 and Peter Dawes was 119th over the line with a time of 44:52.

A total of 250 athletes completed the course.

Indoor League

Just a reminder that competition resumes in the Indoor League at the Kelvin Hall on Sunday 6th of December.

If you would like to compete, you should contact your coach or team manager to alert them of your availability.  If you are taking part, you must supply your own team vest.

They are on sale at Achilles Heel in Great Western Road.

The results of the last meeting have only now arrived and there are many errors which we hope to rectify.  The scrutineer apparently didn't believe that we had two Chris Marshal's.

The results can be found at this link.

New Tracksuits

Royal Air ForceWe intend to issue our new Club tracksuit to all of our members who have represented the Club in competition in the last year or helped with the Bag Packing on the 24th of November.  We'll then consult with coaches and team managers to find the most deserving athletes not originally selected.

We have a total of 200 tracksuits to issue and we would hope that this will be sufficient to supply each of our competing members.

We would like to place our order for the tracksuits by the middle of January and to this end, I would appreciate it if all of our athletes could send an e-mail to Gordon stating their name, date of birth and which size they would like.

For athletes who don't have e-mail, I'll contact them or their coach for sizes.  I'll try and get round all of our coaches as soon as possible to identify deserving athletes.

The sizes available are:      (Chest in inches)

'Children':   26",  28",  30" and 32".

'Adults':  S 34"/36",    M 38"/40",    L 42"/44",    XL 46"/48".

We're planning on buying separate kit for our coaches in the near future and again, I'll make them aware of our plans.

Katie Alexander at Achilles Heel was delighted to hear about our good fortune and has very kindly agreed to supply the new tracksuits from the shop.  Please don't contact Katie meanwhile as I'll update you when the kit is due to arrive.  Hopefully by the end of February.

New Sponsor

Royal Air ForceThe more observant among our membership might have noticed the new logo above.  For those that missed it, it's the one on the right.

Squadron Leader David Elliot (Area Commander Scotland & Northern Ireland) was inspired by Glasgow's success in securing the Commonwealth Games and approached the Club with a view to a partnership.

He assured me that he wasn't trying to lure me away to another career or recruit from our membership but he would be delighted if the general public associate excellence in sport and high standards of fitness with the Royal Air Force.

Squadron Leader Elliot wasn't wearing a red suit and he didn't have a white beard but he will be delivering 200 tracksuits to our membership early in the new year.  He said that he hoped for a long term partnership with the Club and promised additional stock annually.

We would hope that all of our competing members benefit from the RAF's generosity and the more photogenic might assist with a photo call in the near future.

As expected, the usual suspects are already promoting themselves as VP-Glasgow's "Next Top Model", don't call us, we'll call you.

Gothenburg 2008

Ulevi StadiumIn July of this year, about 20 of our athletes were able to attend the Swedish Championships at the Ulevi Stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden and they enjoyed the trip immensely.

VP-Glasgow is planning on attending once again with a small team.  Unfortunately we need to book our rooms now as we will be arranging our accommodation through Brian Donaldson.  The accommodation is £30 per night for bed and breakfast.  Everyone will be responsible for booking their own flights.   We normally fly from Prestwick to Gothenburg with Ryan Air.  The prices will vary considerably over the coming months.

The competition is open to U13 athletes born in 1996 (not younger) and all age groups upwards.  Athletes, U15 years and younger would need to be accompanied on the trip by a parent.

If anyone is interested, they should contact Gordon as soon as possible.

The dates of the Championships are from Friday the 27th until Sunday the 29th of June.  I believe that the 27th is the last day of term for most school pupils.
