Run, Jump and Throw - Results

Kenny sent in the results of the Run, Jump and Throw competition and there were some great 200m times posted.

For the U11 girls, Katya was fastest with a time of 40.1s, closely followed by Emma F who finished in a time of 40.7s.  Very close.

For the U11 boys, Liam was 1st in a time of 37.3s with Finlay close behind in a time of 36.3s.

The fastest among the U13 girls was Sarah J who clocked a time of 35.0s, just ahead of Eilidh who finished in a time of 36.0s.

Ross had the best time among the U13 boys when he finished in 34.1s, just ahead of Kurt who posted a time of 37.0s.

The full times for your track cards can be viewed here.

Athletics Camp - Coaches Required

Brian Donaldson is organising a holiday programme for athletics during the Easter break and GAA have been asked to supply coaches for the programme.

His requirements are roughly as follows Mon 2nd - Fri 6th April - 4/6 coaches - 5.5 hours per day Tues 10th - Fri 13th April - 4/6 coaches - 5.5 hours per day

Coaches would be based at Kelvin Hall ISA and we would expect them to be Level One athletics coaches working towards Level 2. They would be paid about £7/8 per hour.

It would be a good opportunity for young coaches to gain more experience and make a few bob.

Replies to Ronnie Stevenson as soon as possible.

New Club Vest

The vest competition is finally over.  The winner was vest 'F' which was designed by Gillian Galloway and Erin Leggate with 47 votes.

The total votes cast was 96 with the breakdown as follows.

  1. Vest F - 47

  2. Vest E - 20

  3. Vest C - 16

  4. Vest H - 7

  5. Vest D - 6

We'll order a couple of samples (including crop tops) over the next couple of days and if we can get the winning pair to model them I'll put the pictures on the web site as soon as possible.

Run, Jump and Throw Competition

The final results of the Run, Jump and Throw competition are now in.

Beth PotterUK Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships Nottingham

U15 Girls

In what was the most competitive finishes in the age-group races, long-time leader Beth Potter fought off two strong challenges to strike gold.  First Beth Carter strode into the lead with about 500m to go only for Potter to pick up the pace.  Then Melissa Hawtin made an equally determined bid, but Potter found yet another gear and won the race in a time of 16:00.

For the U17's, Josephine Moultrie was part of the Scotland West team that finished in 2nd position.  Josephine finished in 10th place in a time of 20:36.  The other scoring athletes were Nicola Hood, Natalie Sharp and Christina Rankin.

This was the final race of the UK X-Challenge which has been going on over the winter season.  Josephine Moultrie came 3rd overall for the season 2006/2007 in the U17 ladies and was awarded her trophy at Nottingham.

The full results are available at this link.

AAA's Birmingham

David MartinGreat news from the AAA's, VP-Glasgow athletes won three Silver medals on the second day of the Championships.

David Martin won Silver in the final of the U20 mens 400m while running a PB of 48.17s.  The announcer said it would be worth waiting for and he wasn't mistaken, a fantastic race.  David appeared to get blocked in on the final bend and it was only in the last 20 metres that he finally found the space for a drive to the line.

Suzanne Begg was next up and she looked to be out of the running on the final bend of her U17 200m final.  Not for the first time, she was very strong on the final straight and had it been 10 yards longer it might have been gold.  Suzanne's time was a PB of 24.84s

Hollie Young picked up our third and last silver medal of the Championships in the U15 800m in a new PB time of 2:14.03.  She was in fourth place for much of the race and at one point looked to be losing contact with the leaders.  She clawed her way back into the race and was stronger than the opposition in the final lap.

Well done to our medallists and the rest of our athletes who reached semi finals and finals and picked up a string of PB's over the two days.

A great weekend for the Club, the full results are now available at this link.

Indoor City Challenge - 18th February

VPCOG were well represented at the Indoor City Challenge at Sheffield where the home team emerged as the winners.

Sheffield retained the UK Indoor City Challenge cup in a Final of such high quality at the EIS Sheffield that six of the 24 competition records were broken.

There was as much excellence as effort as Sheffield held off a magnificent late charge by last year’s runners-up, London North. Final result: 1 Sheffield 171.5; 2 London North 167; 3 Manchester 139; 4 London South 125.5; 5 Birmingham 120.5; 6 Glasgow 104.5; 7 Oxford 86; 8 Bristol 84.

Victoria Park City Of Glasgow athletes were heavily involved in the action.  In the field, Gillian Black finished in 7th place in the Ladies High Jump with a height of 1.60m.  Alison Rodger finished in 2nd place in the Ladies Shot Putt with a throw of 15.25m.  Jennifer Graham was 3rd in the Ladies Pole Vault with a height of 3.80m and Eilidh Dorrian was 6th with a height of 3.40m.

Alison RodgerOn the circular track, David Martin was 2nd in his heat of the Mens 400m and 3rd overall in a new PB time of 48.15s.  Aisling McGhee was 4th in her heat of the Ladies 400m in a time of 60.97s.  Abbey McGhee was 8th in the Ladies 800m with a time of 2:19.74 and Martin Hayes was 7th in the mens 1500m in a time of 4:13.75.

On the straight track, Sara Whigham finished in 7th place in the Ladies 60m in a time of 7.96s and Neale Kelly was 7th in the mens 60m Hurdles in a time of 8.69s.

Once again, this competition proved to be a great success and hopefully we will see more of the same next year.

Suzanne BeggBank Of Scotland Championships - U17 and U20

Day two of the Championships on Sunday 18th of February was far more enjoyable from a VPCOG point of view.  Despite many of our best athletes competing in the Indoor City Challenge at Sheffield, we still won more than our share of medals.

Suzanne Begg received a special trophy in recognition of the Best U17 Outdoor Sprint Performance in 2006.  She followed that with an excellent win in the final of the U17 200m in a time of 25.64s.

Rebecca Finch was 1st in the U20 1500m in a time of 4:50.76 and was 3rd in the final of the 800m in a time of 2:19.92.

Calum InnesThomas Campbell was 1st in the U20 High Jump with a height of 1.95m and 2nd in the Pole Vault with a clearance of 4m.

Courtney MacGuire returned from injury and was 3rd in the U20 Pole Vault with a height of 3m.

Danielle Osborne was 3rd in the final of the U20 200m in a time of 25.82s.

Natalie Doyle was 2nd in the U17 60m Hurdles in a time of 9.26s.

Calum Innes was 1st in the final of the U17 60m Hurdles in a time of 8.43s and 3rd in the final of the 200m in a time of 23.65s.

Kerry Steel was 2nd in the U20 ladies Triple Jump with a distance of 11.17m and 3rd in the Long Jump with a distance of 5.28m.

Well done to everyone who took part, I know that a lot of new PB's were achieved.  The full results are available here.

Max AitchisonBank Of Scotland Championships - U13 and U15

Day one of the age group championships at the Kelvin Hall on Saturday the 17th of February was quite disappointing.  So many of our athletes narrowly missed out on the medal positions.

E-mail addresses

We're currently building a new database containing our members details and have noticed a large number of e-mail addresses were rejected by the Mail Administrator.

Could any member who did not receive the message about the new vest or the administrative message from John Innes, send John an e-mail stating their full name, age group and email address so that he can complete the Club records as accurately as possible.

It would also help if those whose email address does not give a good indication of their full name if they could do likewise stating that they did receive the  message from John.
