Indoor League -
Final
VP-Glasgow had a great day at the
final of the Indoor League with 6 teams finishing
among the medals.
The U13 Boys team were 2nd in the
final with excellent performances from Lewis Boyle who
was 1st in the 800m with a time of 2:32.12 and Robbie
Pollok who was 1st in the 60m Hurdles with a time of
10.85s. Also in the team was Ross Carpenter,
Marcus Cooney and Steven Thistleton.
The
U15 Boys were also 2nd with excellent performances all
round and a success for Chris Barnes who was 1st in
the Shot Putt with a distance of 12.61m. The
other members of the team were Hugh MacKenzie, Chris
Marshall, Connor Murray and John Mulheron.
The U15 Boys were 2nd in the
4x200m relay with a time of 1:47.57.
The U17 Men finished in 2nd place
with the best performances coming from Andrew
McFarlane when winning the Long Jump with a distance
of 5.63m and John Craig when winning the 60m in a time
of 7.27s. The rest of the team including Michael
Gray and Jax Thoirs secured valuable points on the
track and in the field.
The U20 Men were 1st in their
final with wins for David Clark in the 60m with a time
of 7.18 and the 200m with a time of 22.98 and Calum
Innes in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.60m.
The rest of the team was, Sean Fontana, Mathew Hester
and Lorn Menzies.
The U20 men also won the 4x200m
relay with a time of 1:32.61.
Our
U15 Girls team was 2nd in their final with the best
performance coming from Sarah Gray when winning the
High Jump with a height of 1.50m. Their were
fine performances from all of the team which included
Chloe Lambert, Deborah Hannah, Christina Clark, Alex
McNaughton, Catherine Clark and Hannah Moultrie.
The U15 Girls were 3rd in the
4x200m relay with a time of 1:54.09.
The U17 Women finished 4th in
their final with the best performance coming from
Augusta Carmen when winning the 60m Hurdles with a
time of 9.42s. The team was completed with Mairi
Bowie, Gillian MacFarlane, Lara Davidson, Jennifer
Callaghan and Nicola Moultrie.
The U20 Women were 2nd in the
final with the best performances coming from Hazel
Blair when winning the High Jump with a height of
1.55m and the 200m with a time of 27.84s. Also
competing were Gillian McMillan, Erin Leggate, Heather
Rankine, Yvonne MacFarlane, Katie Riches and Stephanie
O'Neill.
The U20 Women won the 4x200m
relay with a time of 1:51.21.

Scotstoun Stadium
As you may have
heard, the planned capital programme for Scotstoun has
been approved at committee, with no design change.
The revised
timetable for the construction of the new Stadium at
Scotstoun is as follows.
17th
March 2008 - On site to disconnect services. No
access to buildings.
24th
March 2008 - Track Closed.
16th May 2008 -
Construction begins.
21st August 2009 -
Completion of project.
I wonder if it's
available for the Club Championships.

National Young
Athletes - Road Race Championships
The
National Championships are being held at Aberdeen this
year on Sunday the 23rd of March.
Two minibuses will
be leaving Scotstoun at 0730
hrs on Sunday morning. The journey
should take about 3.5 hours. Gordon and Donald
will be the drivers.
Declarations close
at 1130 hrs and the first race starts at 1200 hrs.

Inter Counties Championships and World Trials
The Championships
were held at Wollaton Park, Nottingham on Saturday 17th
of March with several VP-Glasgow athletes competing
for Scotland West.
For the Senior Women, Susan Partridge was 33rd
to finish in a time of 30:08 with Pamela Nicholson 41st
with a time of 30:29.
The Junior Women were represented by Beth Potter who
finished 6th in a time of 22:46 and Nicola
Hood who was 27th with a time of 24:43
Hollie Young was 18th to finish among the
U15 Girls with a time of 15:37 and Sarah Potter was
101st to finish in a time of 16:49.
Max Aitchison was our sole representative in the U13
category where he finished 39th in a time
of 12:59.
A great effort by all concerned and a great experience
running in such a high quality field. |

Shine Awards
The
U11's and U13's are currently concentrating their
efforts on achieving the various standards of the
Shine Awards.
Sprint speed is the element currently being measured
and the first Gold Award has been won by Eve Dunlop
who ran 190 metres in 30 seconds, 6x10m shuttle runs
in 16.5s, 60m in 9.3s and 200m in 32.5s.
Winners of the Silver Award to date include, Steven
Thistleton, Robbie Pollok, Iona Wilson,
Mariana Denton, Katie Sinclair, Sophie Lightbody,
Calum Booth.

Scottish Indoor Championships
The Championships were held at the Kelvin Hall on
Saturday the 1st of March and as expected, there was a
good turnout from VP-Glasgow.
Jill
Knowles was 3rd in the 3,000m with a time of 10:17.42
ahead of her team-mates Susan Finch who was 5th with a
time of 10:22.84 and Rebecca Finch who was 6th with a
time of 10:29.06.
Joanne Finch returned to good form and finished 2nd in
the 1500m with a time of 4:26.76.
David Clark was 4th in the final of the 200m with a
time of 22.73s and 6th in the final of the 60m with a
time of 7.17s.
Danielle Osborne was 3rd in the final of the 200m with
a time of 25.47s, just ahead of her team-mate Suzanne
Begg who finished 5th with a time of 26.38s.
Suzanne was 3rd in the final of the 60m with a time of
7.88s.
Calum Innes was 3rd in the final of the 60m Hurdles
with a time of 8.56s ahead of his team-mate Neale
Kelly who was 4th with a time of 8.59s.
Alyssa Fullelove was 2nd in the final of the 60m
Hurdles with a time of 8.55s, ahead of her team-mate
Heather Rankine who was 4th with a time of 9.93s.
Hazel
Blair was 3rd in the High Jump with a height of 1.60m.
Jennifer Graham was 3rd in the Pole Vault with a
height of 3.70m , ahead of her team-mate Courtney
MacGuire who was 4th with a height of 3.30m.
Claire Cameron was 7th in the Shot Putt with a
distance of 10.05m.
There were no medals for any of our teams at the
relays but the U13 boys were unlucky to miss out on a
medal, finishing 4th in the final with a time of
2:04.45.

Shine
Awards - February
Kenny
has just uploaded the latest results from the Norwich
Union Shine Awards and several of our athletes are
among the medals.
Ross Carpenter recorded an excellent time of 30.35 for
the 200m and has won a Bronze Award.
14 awards have now been won with many more expected to
meet the standards required.

England
Athletics Indoor Championships (AAA's)
Several
members of VP-Glasgow made the journey south to the
National Indoor Arena, Birmingham for the
Championships on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th of
February.
Sean Fontana
returned home with a Bronze medal to show for his
efforts in the U20 1500m where he finished with a time
of 4:05.51.
Calum Innes was 5th in the final of the U20 60m
Hurdles with a PB time of 8.23s, Gregor Innes was
eliminated from the U20 400m in the semi final, with a
time of 50.37s and David Clark reached the semi finals
of the U20 60m where he recorded a time of 7.15s.
Suzanne Begg was 3rd in her heat of the U20 200m with
a time of 25.44s and Kerry Steel was 11th in the final
of the Triple Jump with a distance of 10.67m.

Scottish Power - National Cross Country Championships
VP-Glasgow had an excellent day at Callendar Park,
Falkirk on Saturday 23rd of February, with five teams
winning medals and five individuals in the first three
places.
Doug
Gillon when writing in The Herald on Monday 25th
February stated "The success
of the amalgamation which is Victoria Park Glasgow was
underlined when they won the sponsor's £1000 award for
the best overall Club".
The U13 Boys were first to achieve success over the
3,200m course. Max Aitchison was 3rd with a time
of 11:34, Lewis Boyle was 21st with a time of 12:32,
Sam Adams was 41st with a time of 12:52, Fraser
Barbour was 50th with a time of 13:06 and Findlay
Parker was 57th with a time of 13:16. Their
overall team position was 1st.
The U13 Girls were unable to field a full team but
Rachel Dick finished in 45th place with a time of
14:19, Iona Wilson was 84th with a time of 15:19 and
Eilidh McEvilly was 94th with a time of 15:44.
The
U15 Boys competed over a 4,000m course and again were
short of a full team. Hugh MacKenzie was 59th
with a time of 15:33, Paul MacFarlane was 71st with a
time of 15:59 and Lewis Wilson was 77th with a time of
16:05.
The U15 Girls also competed over the 4,000m course and
won the team prize in some style. Hollie Young
was 3rd with a time of 15:02, Sarah Potter was 10th
with a time of 15:25, Deborah Hannah was 18th with a
time of 16:02, Michaela Stephen was 28th with a time
of 16:31, Holly Conyers was 48th with a time of 17:13,
Amy MacLellan was 51st with a time of 17:14 and Katie
MacKay was 60th with a time of 17:31.
The U17 Women won their team competition over a 4,800m
course. Beth Potter was 1st with a time of 16:31,
Rhian Dawes was 7th with a time of 17:37, Jo Moultrie
was 8th with a time of 17:51 and Corrine McConnachie
was 35th with a time of 20:55.
The
U20 Women also won their event over the same 4,800m
course. Nicola Hood was 1st with a time of 16:41,
Rebecca Finch was 7th with a time of 17:53 and Abbey
McGhee was 8th with a time of 17:54.
Our senior women completed the medals haul with a 2nd
place for the team. Susan Partridge was 1st with
a time for the 8,000m course of 28:01, Pamela
Nicholson was 6th with a time of 29:38, Lindsay
MacNeill was 11th with a time of 30:20, Kirsteen Young
was 16th with a time of 31:09 and Kirsty Baird was
82nd with a time of 35:40.
Well done to everyone who represented the Club on a

Shine
Awards
The
U11's and U13's are currently working on the Shine
Awards with the emphasis on Speed.
The early results make interesting reading with Steven
Thistleton leading on 8.8s for the 60m. It's
very close and I would expect the lead to change a few
times over the coming weeks.

Masters
Indoor Championships
The
Masters were once again held at the Kelvin Hall on
Saturday 16th of February.
Derek Watson Snr was 1st in the M45 400m with a time
of 56.34s and 2nd in the 800m with a time of 2:11.16.
Gerry Farrell was 1st in the M40 Shot with a distance
of 10.00m.
Jimmy Christie was 2nd in the M75 Shot with a distance
of 4.94m.
Claire Cameron was 1st in the W45 Shot with a distance
of 9.85m.

National Combined Events
The
Pentathlon Championships were once again held at the
Kelvin Hall on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th of
February.
Robbie Pollok was the only medallist among the boys
while finishing 3rd with 1049 pts. His best
performance was 11.35s for the 60m Hurdles.
Andrew McFarlane finished in 5th place for the U17 men
with 2914 points. His best performance was 9.13s
for the 60m Hurdles.
Stuart Ross was 8th among the U17 men with a total of
2452 points. His best performance was in the
1000m where he recorded a time of 2:45.60.
Erin Leggate had a great win in the U20 Womens event
with a total of 3281 points. Her best
performance was in the High Jump where she cleared
1.78m.
Courtney MacGuire was 3rd in the same event with 2534
points. Her best performance was in the 60m
Hurdles where she recorded a time of 10.43s.
Katie Riches narrowly missed out on a medal when
finishing 4th with 2506 points. Her best
performance was in the 60m Hurdles where she recorded
a time of 10.07s.

Jim
Dingwall Memorial Race
The 3rd Memorial Race and 42nd Round The Houses Road
Race was held at Grangemouth on Sunday the 17th of
February.
VP-Glasgow Senior Women won the 3x10k event with fine
runs from Jill Knowles who was 2nd with a time of
36:30, Susan Finch who was 1st woman O45 with a time
of 37:15 and Rebecca Finch who was 3rd U20 with a time
of 39:08.
Well done once again to our medallists.

Scottish Power National Cross Country Championships
VP-Glasgow athletes will be competing in the Cross
Country Championships at Callender Park, Falkirk on
Saturday 23rd of February.

Erin
Leggate
Congratulations to Erin for an excellent PB while
representing Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the
Lee Valley Athletics Centre, London on Wednesday the
14th of February.
Erin set a new PB and a
Scottish Indoor U20 record with a height of
1.80m.
Erin cleared the same height as the winning athlete
from the Netherlands before losing out on count back.
I'm sure John and the rest of his group will be
delighted.

Congratulations to Susan Scott for her selection to
represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the
IAAF World Indoor Championships in Valencia, Spain, on
7-9th March.
Susan will be competing over 1500m.

The Kelvin Hall Sports
Education Trust will be offering bursaries to the
following athletes from VP-Glasgow. The
Bursaries are awarded on the basis of the athlete's
performances in 2007. Letters will be getting posted

Nine
VP-Glasgow athletes performed above the UK Power Of
Ten target for 2007 and each will receive from the
Norwich Union, a Chronograph Sports Watch.
Their coaches will also receive an award in
recognition of their success.

Innes, David Martin, Erin Leggate, Gregor Innes,
Hollie Young, Jax Thoirs and Jennifer Graham.

VP-Glasgow was once again well represented at the U13,
U15, U17 and U20 Championships at the Kelvin Hall on
Saturday the 9th and Sunday the 10th of February.
Max Aitchison was 2nd in the U15 1500m with a time
of 4:42.47 while Deborah Hannah was 3rd in the Girls
U15 1500m with a time of 5:05.93.
Hollie Young was 1st in the U17 800m with a time of
2:15.71.
Christina Clark was 3rd in the U15
Girls High Jump with a height of 1.55m and Hazel Blair was 2nd in the U20 High Jump with a
height of 1.60m.
Eilidh McEvilly was 3rd in the U15 Shot Putt with a
distance of 7.17m.
Courtney MacGuire was 1st in the U20 Pole Vault
with a height of 3.30m while Sam Adams was 3rd in the
U15 Pole Vault with a height of 2.40m.
Kerry Steel was 1st in the U20 Triple Jump with a
distance of 10.94m.
Gregor Innes was 3rd in the U20 400m with a time of
50.2s.
Calum Innes was 2nd in the 60m Hurdles with a time
of 8.44s and Heather Rankine was 3rd in the U20 womens
60m Hurdles with a time of 9.45s.

7.10s and Danielle Osborne was 2nd in the U20 womens
60m with a time of 25.33s.

Cross Country The Masters was held at
Irvine on Saturday the 9th of February.
Susan Finch was our only success while finishing
4th overall and 1st O/45 with a time of 25:34.

Erin
Leggate Erin has been selected to
represent Great Britain at U20 at the Jumps
International at Lee Valley, London next Wednesday.
This will hopefully be the first of many GB vests
for Erin who jumped 1.71m at the World Trials in
Sheffield last weekend. |

Scottish Schools Indoor Championships
The
annual Championships were once again held at the
Kelvin Hall Arena on Thursday the 8th of February.
Although wearing their school vests, VP-Glasgow
athletes were well represented.
Hollie Young was 2nd in the U/16 800m with a time of
2:17.89 and Stuart Ross was 1st in the O/16 800m with
a PB time of 2:00.63.
Beth Potter was 1st in the O/16 1500m with a time of
4:35.0 ahead of her team -mate Rhian Dawes who was 3rd
with a time of 4:50.2. Sean Fontana was 2nd in
the O/16 1500m with a time of 4:04.07.
Suzanne Begg was 1st in the U/16 200m with a time of
25.68s while Chloe Lambert was 1st in the U16 200m
with a time of 26.51s.
Lucinda Logan was 3rd in the O/16 High Jump with a
height of 1.60m.
Andrew
McFarlane was 2nd in the U/16 60m Hurdles with a time
of 9.05s, 3rd in the High Jump with a height of 1.75m
and 1st in the Long Jump with a distance of 5.67m.
Gregor Innes was 2nd in the O/16 400m with a time of
50.1s.
Calum Innes was 1st in the O/16 60m Hurdles with a
time of 8.35s while Augusta Carman was 2nd in the O/16
60m Hurdles with a time of 9.33s.
Courtney MacGuire was 1st in the O/16 Pole Vault with
a height of 3.20m while Jamie Sinclair was 2nd in the
O/16 Pole Vault with a height of 4.10m.
Possibly the best performance of the day was a
Championship Best Performance from Jax Thoirs who was
1st in the U/16 Pole Vault with a height of 3.60m.

Indoor
League - Match 3
The
unscrutinised points totals for the Indoor League are
in and if correct we will have seven teams in the
final.
The successful teams appear to be the U13 Boys, U15
Girls, U15 Boys, U17 Women, U17 Men, U20 Women and U20
Men.
There was several winners on the day including Heather
Rankine who was 1st in the U20 60m with a time of
9.76s.
Lara Davidson was 1st in the U17 High Jump with a
height of 1.55m.
Lucinda Logan and Hazel Blair were 1st equal in the
U20 High Jump with a height of 1.58m. Hazel was
also 1st in the 200m with a time of 27.9s.
Eilidh McEvilly won both the U13 Shot with a PB of
7.58m and the 60m Hurdles with an excellent time of
11.10s.
Steven
Thistleton was 1st in the U13 High Jump with a height
of 1.35m while his team-mates Lewis Boyle and Fraser
Barbour were 1st and 2nd in the 800m with respective
times of 2:34.7 and 2:35.9. Robbie Pollok had an
outstanding win in the 60m Hurdles with a time of
11.25s. Ross Carpenter ensured their
qualification with a fine win in the 60m with a time
of 9.25s.
Chris Barnes won the U15 Shot with a new PB of 10.84m
Andy McFarlane was 1st in the U17 Long Jump with a PB
of 5.87m while his team-mate Stuart Ross won the 800m
with an excellent time of 2:03.5.
Sean Fontana was 1st in the U20 800m with a time of
2:02.1 while his team-mate David Clark ensured the
U20's qualification with wins in both the 60m Hurdles
and the 200m with respective times of 8.96s and 23.3s.

Scottish Athletics 4K Championships
VP-Glasgow
were successful at the Cross Country Championships at
Bellahouston Park on Sunday the 27th of January.
Our senior ladies team finished in 2nd place overall
following some excellent individual performances.
Nicola Hood finished in 4th place with a time of
15:10, just ahead of her team-mate Pamela Nicholson
who finished 5th with a time of 15:16. The 3rd
member of the team was Joanne Finch who finished in
17th place with a time of 15:57.
More success followed in the GADS 2K Development
races.
Max Aitchison won the U13 event with a time of 7:02,
ahead of his team-mates Lewis Boyle who was 9th with a
time of 7:36, Fraser Barbour who was 17th with a time
of 07:58, Sam Adams who was 18th with a time of 08:00
and Robbie Pollok who was 28th with a time of 08:36.
Between
them, the boys medalled as the 3rd placed team.
The U15 boys finished in 4th place with Paul
MacFarlane leading them home in 14th place with a time
of 7:46 ahead of John Mulheron who was 19th with a
time of 7:58, Lewis Wilson who was 22nd with a time of
8:13 and Jax Thoirs who was 23rd with a time of 9:13.
The U15 Girls had a tremendous day with 1st in the
team event followed by individual success.
Hollie Young was 2nd with a time of 7:21, Sarah Potter
was 3rd with a time of 7:27, Michaela Stephen was 4th
with a time of 7:38, Debora Hannah was 5th with a time
of 7:42 and Katie McKay was 16th with a time of 8:28.

Union International
Two of our athletes were competing at this event on
Saturday 26th of January at the Kelvin Hall.
David Martin was 2nd in the 400m 2014 select race with
a time of 49.36s.
Chris Baillie set his 2nd PB in a fortnight in the 60m
Hurdles when finishing 3rd as a guest with a time of
7.74s.

Brian
Donaldson has a large number of limited view tickets
for the International at the Kelvin Hall on Saturday
the 26th of January.
VP-Glasgow
will be represented by Chris Baillie in the 60m
Hurdles as he competes once again with Allan Scott.
Craig Pickering will be in action again this year and
he'll be looking to improve on last years performance
in the 60m.

Scottish Closed Championships - Day 2
The
second day of the Championships brought more success
for VP-Glasgow Athletes. It was especially
pleasing to see Chris Baillie back in action after a
long period of injury.
Josephine Moultrie was 2nd in the final of the 3000m
with a time of 19:19.63 ahead of her team-mates Susan
Finch who finished 3rd with a time of 10:26.16 and
Rebecca Finch who was 4th with a time of 10:26.16.
Suzanne Begg was 3rd in the final of the 200m with a
time of 26.06s.
Sean Fontana was 4th in the final of the 3000m with a
time of 8:59.38.
Chris Baillie was 2nd in the final of the 60m Hurdles
with a time of 7.79s ahead of Neale Kelly who was 3rd
with a time of 8.38 and Calum Innes who was 4th with a
time of 8.46s.
Alyssa
Fullelove was 1st in the final of the 60m Hurdles with
a time of 8.56s while Erin Leggate was 4th with a time
of 9.60s and Heather Rankine was 5th with a time of
9.65s.
Jennifer Graham was 3rd in the final of the Pole Vault
with a height of 3.60m ahead of her team-mates

District Championships - Day 2
VP-Glasgow
athletes were thin on the ground at the second day of
the West Districts at the Kelvin Hall.
Chloe Lambert was 2nd in the final of the U15 200m
with a time of 26.97.
Sarah Gray was 2nd in the final of the U15 High Jump
with a height of 1.56m.
Augusta Carman was 3rd in the final of the 60m Hurdles
with a time of 9.72s.
Deborah Hannah was 3rd in the final of the U15 800m
with a time of 2:29.22.
Hollie Young was 2nd in the final of the U17 800m with
a time of 2:20.06, just ahead of her team-mate Rhian
Dawes who finished 3rd with a time of 2:20.09.

Scottish Closed Championships - Day 1
A
good return for our efforts as several VP-Glasgow
athletes collected medals on the first day of the
closed championships.
Erin Leggate was 1st in the High Jump with a height of
1.75m, ahead of her team-mate Hazel Blair who was 3rd
with a height of 1.60m.
Sean Fontana was 6th in the final of the 1500m with a
time of 4:13.60.
Rebecca Finch was 2nd in the final of the 1500m with a
time of 4:57.47.
Calum Innes was 2nd in the final of the 60m with a
time of 7.12s, just ahead of his team-mate David Clark
who finished 4th in a time of 7.16.
Fraser Gibson was 3rd in the Pole Vault with a height
of 4.00m, ahead of his team-mate Jamie Sinclair who
was 5th with a height of 3.80m.
