Report
on Team Glasgow visit to Middlesbrough – Sunday 1st
July 2007
Although
the team was weakened due to athletes having other
engagements over the weekend those who attended
performed well and finished in 4th place only 42
points behind the 3rd placed team. Although not
confirmed it is understood that the team are still
lying in 1st place overall so, as the lead is only 1
point, we will need a good turn out at the next match
on 29th July.
The team was made up mostly of
VP-Glasgow athletes all of whom pulled out the stops
to make up for the low numbers.
The
Girls did particularly well with Aisling and Abbey
McGhee and Rebecca Finch each doing 2 track and at
least 1 field event each. Aisling was first in the
400m in a seasons’ best of 59.6 and 3rd in the 100m in
14.0 while Abbey took 2nd in the 800m (2:14.3) and 3rd
in the 200m (28.4). Rebecca took 3rd in both the 1500
(4:59.8 and the 3000m (10:40.3). The girls covered the
Long and triople Jumps and Shot and Discus were they
picked up 2 third places and 2 4th places.
The boys covered what events they
could and the best results were Martin Hayes (1st in
400mHurdles – 61.3 and the2000m S/chase –6:36.6) and
Liam Milligan who, among other things, was 2nd B in
the Javelin with 31.79. Lorn Menzies was 1st B
in the 400m (53.5). Niall Murray was the only other
athlete with a 1st and that was in the B Triple Jump
when he cleared 11m17. Niall also ran the 2ooom
s/chase and came 2nd B in 8.19.3. Derek Gibb also took part and
gained valuable points for the team.
