Newsletter 06/09

Ros will be handing out a newsletter for the Induction Group on training nights.  If you don't come across the hard copy, you can view it at this link.

Text Messaging - U11's and U13's

As you may already be aware, the Club is frequently disappointed by closures of training venues at short notice, occasionally leaving young athletes stranded at the wrong venue.

To guard against this, we are introducing a text messaging service for the U11's and U13's Group.

Normally any changes to our training venues will be posted on the Club Calendar, but if there is a last minute change, we intend to send a text message to all interested parties.

In order for us to set this up, we need to have the correct contact mobile number to send the message to.  If you could please e-mail your child(ren) name, date of birth and one contact mobile number to Lynn McGarrity.

Training Tops

Kyle and Erin wearing the 09 training topsWe have recently purchased a stock of new training tops with the Achilles Heel and Nike logos on the front and VP-Glasgow on the back.

To purchase a training top, you should pay by cash or cheque at the trackside to either Gordon Innes or Ros Halliday.  The cheque should be made payable to Victoria Park City Of Glasgow.

Gordon or Ros will issue you with a receipt and you can then attend at Achilles Heel to uplift your training top.

If you are unable to find Gordon or Ros at the trackside, you can send a cheque to the Club Secretary, 38 Deepdene Road, Bearsden, G61 1NT and a receipt will be sent out to you.

Achilles Heel are once again very generously holding our stock but are unable to accept payment.  You must first pay the Club for your training top before you attend at the shop with the receipt.

The cost of the new training tops is £11 for athletes in the U13 group and younger and £15 for athletes U15 and older.

UK Womens League - 6 June

Rhian DawesKatie Horne sent in the following match report from Cardiff.

'Terrible weather for the girlies down south and think that is obvious in the results.  Div2 not much better in Cardiff, started with massive thunder storm which reduced the hammer comp to a swimming comp, waterproof clothing is obviously not designed for that kind of rain as didn't work!

VP-Glasgow finished 7th after injuries meant major re-juggling of the team in situ.  Thanks to everyone who just got on with it and did it for the point!

The best results and selected few include: Good run and pb for Jade MacLaren in the 800m, 1st with 2.13.78.  3rd A and B in the 1500m for Rebecca Finch and Rhian Dawes, 4.42.5 and 4.50.4 respectively.  Josephine Moultrie continued her good form in the 3k winning in 9.39.8 with Super Vet Sandra Branney 2nd in B string in 10.43.3.  Me and Stacey Wilson did a 2nd A and 1st B but distances were well down and we had 2kg of water in our shoes and hypothermia!! 46.56m and 45.16m.

Jennifer GrahamNext round 1st weekend in July, here's hoping it's dry!'   We were unlucky that two key athletes Jade MacLaren and Carly Sharp were injured and ill respectively so had to rally the troops and the girls did a grand job volunteering and filling in at the last minute in events to get points, especially Jen Graham in the 100m, Kerry Mann in the TJ, Courtney MacGuire in the LJ and we were very unlucky to have both hurdlers fall in the A and B string race but they got up and finished for the points and Maria Thomas filling in the 200m 30mins after her 400m.  I had to do the B 400m and we had a scratch 4x400 team who did exceptionally well to finish 5th having pulled in Josephine Moultrie and Rhian Dawes at the last min.  We have a much stronger team for the next two matches so we'll be fine!
