VP-Glasgow had an exceptional day at the DAAA XC relays on October 16th,
which took place in a fine sunny day at Helensburgh’s Duchess Woods and Lomond

produced
a fair number of cuts and bruises. There was a fantastic turnout from

National 50K - Perth Ultrafest
Gerry Craig took
part in the 50k on Saturday the 4th of September and
sent in the following post.
Lovely sunny day with a slight breeze and mid 60s perfect
ultra running conditions. 21 laps of 1.5 miles
on a nearly flat circuit around
North Inch Park in Perth.
The
50k set off with the 100k 2 hours after the 24hr race
had begun so plenty of runners for company but quite
confusing trying to figure out positions. Race
plan thrown out the window when at the pre race
briefing we were told no garmins were allowed as this
is against the competition rules so I was just going
to have to use the lap official clock to judge my
pace. All went to plan but pace slowed slightly on
last 4 laps although I would have had a faster last
lap if the officials hadn't got my lap count wrong and
told me I had 2 to go when starting my last lap,
thankfully they sorted this and cycled out to tell me
but as I only had 800mtrs to go it didn't make much
difference to my time.
Finished in 3rd place and 2nd vet in 3hrs 50mins 26secs,
equivalent to 5 10km races in a row at 46mins each. |

Scottish Athletics League
VP-Glasgow’s men had an excellent day at
Grangemouth Stadium in the fourth and final match of
the Scottish Athletics League. The men won the match,
a comfortable 36 points ahead of Giffnock AC, to top
the League, becoming Division 2 Champions. Next
summer’s season will see the team returning to
Division 1.

Martin Hayes had an excellent day, winning the 400m
in 52.88s, the 3000m Steeplechase in 10:00.10 and the
400mH in 58.43s, where Steven Beattie was 1st B with
61.24s. In fact, the men took the full 60pts from the
two Hurdles events with Neale Kelly and Steven Beattie
coming 1st A and B in the 110mH, running 15.98s and
16.38s respectively. Andrew McFarlane was 3rd A in the
100m with 11.80s and John Mulhern was 1st B (3rd
overall) with 11.79s. John was also 2nd in the 200m

Scottish Women’s Athletics League
The third match of the season’s Scottish Women’s
Athletics League took place at Scotstoun Stadium on
Sunday 29th August. VP-Glasgow’s women did well on the
day, coming 3rd out of 8, but overall they finished
7th in the League. The improved performance in this
match was largely due to an increased turnout (82% of
events filled, compared to 62% in the last match) from
our athletes. It’s also worth noting that half of the
teams in the Women’s League are composite, which makes
for stiff competition.

In the Senior events, Sarah Smith was 1st in the
400m in a time of 59.22s. Claire McCracken was 1st in
the 3000m in 10:50.59 and Maria Milliken was 1st B in
11:25.13. Carly Sharp was 2nd in the 200m in 25.25s
and Sarah Smith was 1st B (3rd overall) in 25.75s.
Rhian Dawes was 3rd in the 1500m in 4:53.23. In the
field, Jennifer Graham was 1st in the Pole Vault
clearing 3.00m, while Kirsty Yates and Stacey Wilson
gained full points in the Shot with Putts of 12.64m
and 10.41m respectively. Stacey also won the Discus
with a throw of 35.82m. Estelle Kagambega won the
Javelin in 38.16m. The senior women were also 3rd in
the 4x100m relay with a time of 51.36s.
For the U15s, Mhairi Patience was 1st in the 100m
in a time of 12.56s, while Paige Dickson was 2nd in
the 800m in 2:19.37 and Anya Morrison was 3rd in the
1500m with 5:15.43. In the field, Eilidh McEvilly won
the Shot Putt with 9.80m, and Mhairi Patience was 3rd
in the Long Jump with 4.87m.
For the U13s, Gillian Black was 2nd in the 800m in
2:33.52.
