Special Training Event - Kelvin Hall - Friday 16th December

Joanna RossJoanna Ross, our current club record holder at 800m and 1500m and a current GB international athlete and her coach (John Lees) have accepted an invitation from Graham Smith to host a training session at the Kelvin Hall on Friday 16th December at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

Bag Packing – Sunday 27th November

What a result, a tremendous effort by all the bag packers.  We were so proud of everyone who was able to attend. Over 30 athletes, parents and coaches turned up on the day.

We appreciated all of the help we received from those who manned the checkouts from 12pm till 6pm, those who managed a few hours between their other commitments and parents who helped out with duties from bag packing to providing the transport.

It was a great success, I can tell you that it took a family of five over 3 hours to count the takings which are listed here:

£10 notes £30
£5 notes £15
£2 coins £50
£1 coins £594
50p coins £272-50p
20p coins £230
10p coins £116-10p
5p coins £55
2p coins £24
1p coins £18-3p
3 Francs (French)
75 Cents (Euros)
32 Cents (USA)
Total: £1,404-63p

Well done to everyone who helped with an enjoyable and profitable day.  It came as no surprise to anyone connected with the Club that the behaviour of the athletes was a credit to Victoria Park.

Bag Packing – Sunday 27th November

Everyone who has volunteered to help with the bag packing should meet if at all possible at 1145 hours in the main concourse of Braehead shopping centre.

We will meet in the passageway that runs between Woolworth’s and W H Smith which is only 50 yards from the main entrance of Sainsbury’s.

If you are arriving later, you should still find some of our group at this location or failing that we’ll be at the checkouts.

It is most important that all of our athletes wear their Club colours.  We will not be allowed access unless we can be identified by our dress.  You can wear either an old VPAAC jacket or a club vest worn over a T shirt.  If you have out grown your club jacket, please bring it along and one of the smaller athletes could wear it.

Please arrive early if possible and we can brief you on your responsibilities.  We will have one parent or coach with each athlete until they are confident about their duties.

We’ll make sure everyone has sufficient breaks over the afternoon.

If you are having difficulty with transport, give Gordon or Linda a call on 563 7013 and we’ll try to help.

Fund Raising - Help Required

Victoria Park have been invited to take part in a Bag Packing afternoon at Sainsbury's store at Braehead on Sunday 27th November.

The purpose of this fundraising is to purchase a stock of a new style tracksuit and training tops which we can sell to our members, hopefully at a generous discount.

Sainsbury'sWe are looking for as many volunteers as possible.  The bag packers must be at least 10 years of age on that date.  We also need some parents to come along and help with the supervision (no age restriction).

We will be allowed into the store from 1200 hrs till 1800 hrs.

Our packers must wear their Club colours, which would be either the last Club tracksuit top or the Club running vest over a T shirt.

I would ask any of our older members who have grown out of the last tracksuit top and are finished with it, to return it to Linda or Gordon and we can arrange for someone to wear it on the day.

We would like as many of the U17 and U15 athletes as possible to make themselves available for the full 6 hours if possible (with breaks).

We would like to break the participation of the U13 and U11 athletes down to a maximum of 3 hours starting at either 1200 hrs or 1500 hrs.

We expect the afternoon concerned to be hard work but also very enjoyable, if you are available, please give your name to Linda or Gordon.  The more packers we have in the store, the more money the Club will make.

Braehead Shopping Centre

The following athletes have volunteered to help on the day of the bag packing.  Any other volunteers will be added to the list.  We now need volunteers from the U11's, U13's and parents to come forward.
