Welcome to VP-Glasgow!
If you’re reading this page then you are very likely new to
either Athletics in general or VP-Glasgow in particular.
This page should explain to you how the Club functions and
what levels of competition are open to our members. We’ve also highlighted some
frequently asked questions which might be of interest to you.

We are based within Scotstoun Stadium on Danes Drive,
Glasgow. We have been here since we were formed in 1929.
Our website (www.vp-glasgow.co.uk) is our central point of
communication, so please add it to your favourites & visit it regularly for
updates on training times and venues.
We welcome members of all ages and abilities and encourage
participation in training as well as various events from Club to National or
even International level.
If you are new to the track environment, you should

Competition
Athletes can compete for the Club when they are 9 years of
age or older. Age groups are defined as below for both training and competition:
U11 aged 9 or 10 & not 11 before 31 August next, U13 aged 11
or 12 & not 13 before 31 August next, U15 aged 13 or 14 & not 15 before 31 August
next, U17 aged 15 or 16 & not 17 before 31 August next, U20 aged 17, 18 or 19 &
not 20 before 31 August next and Seniors – 20 & over.
If you are not already in a training group, you should seek
advice from the Club Secretary. There should be a training group that caters for
either your peer group or your chosen specialty, i.e. Sprints, Jumps or
Endurance.
At the beginning of September annually, athletes from the U13
training group should move on to either a specialist group or the U15 training
group.
Athletes must acquire their own Club
Vest or Crop Top in order to compete. They can be purchased at
Achilles Heel, 593
Great Western Road, Glasgow G12 8HX.
Leagues
Our Club enters various League competitions at different age
levels. If you/your child are interested in being selected for a team event,
please notify your coach or team manager (team manager details are on the
Contacts page of the website for the different groups). We hope to have fixtures
for these events updated regularly on our website. Competition is available for
U11s in the Scottish Athletic Indoor League (SAIL) and the Central and South Of
Scotland League (CSSAL).
Our U13’s and U15’s compete in the Scottish Athletic Indoor
League (SAIL), the Central and South Of Scotland League (CSSAL), the Young
Athletes League (YAL) and the Scottish Womens League. The priority for any
athlete
in this age group should be to compete in the YAL.
The U17’s compete in the Scottish Athletic Indoor League
(SAIL), the Central and South Of Scotland League (CSSAL), the Young Athletes
League (YAL) the Scottish Womens League, the Scottish Athletic (Mens) League and
in the National Junior League as part of the composite Team Glasgow. The
priority at this age group should always be the YAL.
The U20’s compete in the Scottish Athletic Indoor League
(SAIL), the Central and South Of Scotland League (CSSAL), the Scottish Womens
League, the Scottish Athletic (Mens) League and in the National Junior League as
part of the composite Team Glasgow. The priority at this age group should always
be the National Junior League.
The Seniors compete in the Central and South Of Scotland
League (CSSAL), the Scottish Womens League, the Scottish Athletic (Mens) League,
the UK Womens Athletic League and the British Athletic League Cup if they are
also a member of Glasgow City AC.
Specific events are available for Veterans in the Central and
South Of Scotland League (CSSAL).
Team Managers are
normally selected from volunteers at our Annual General Meeting. Although some
have a coaching background, most are parents of competing children. If you would
like to become involved, make yourself available to assist one of the managers
at a league meeting, you’ll soon become indispensable, or contact the Club
Secretary.

You must be a member of Scottish
Athletics to compete, either for the Club or as an individual.
Fixtures for all Scottish Athletics events are listed on
their website www.scottishathletics.org.uk. If you/your child wishes to compete,
they will need to register through this website (or by phone to their office)
for a Scottish Athletics registration number which needs to be quoted when
registering at any competition. This registration number is used when linking to
the ranking site Power of Ten (www.powerof10.info). Registering is free for the
first year for athletes under 20 years of age.
Regular checks of our News page, Calendar and Message Board
will keep you updated and hopefully make you feel involved and part of our Club.
Please feel free to contact us via any of the links or through the Message
Board. You can also speak to a Coach on training nights.
We would also be delighted for anyone to volunteer to help on
a training night, either on a regular or ad hoc basis. If you’re having to wait
whilst your child is training, what better way of keeping warm than joining in –
no training required, just a willingness to lend a hand!
Enjoy your Athletics year. We hope you get the most out of
your membership of our Club and feel a valued part of a team.
